ROLE: The Environmental Product Technical Surveyor serves as a key technical resource specializing in Environmental Insurance. This role is responsible for ensuring service level agreement (SLA) compliance, maintaining high standards of quality assurance, and supporting consistent, accurate delivery of environmental specific survey products to our clients.

The Environmental Product Technical Surveyor reviews, evaluates, and finalizes survey reports to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, and alignment with product requirements. This position also provides technical guidance and support to field inspectors, helping them understand environmental risk considerations, survey expectations, and any specialized information needed to complete an assignment effectively.

Responsibilities include managing survey files from initial intake through completion including but not limited to; conducting initial phone surveys, advising field inspectors on job-specific needs, monitoring progress, and performing the final review and quality check once fieldwork is complete. The role acts as a central liaison to uphold quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction within the environmental loss control survey process.

REPORTING LINE: Director, Loss Control Services

OFFICE/REMOTE: This is a remote position

IN SCOPE:

  • Completes LCS Phone Surveys primarily on environmental risks
  • Issues recommendations for environmental risk mitigation, focused on industry standard environmental regulatory compliance
  • Reviews file notes, correspondence and required documentation
  • Packages phone and field surveys into a comprehensive report or in the client’s system
  • Advises the field inspector of any unique or specific items related to specific inspections
  • Works with Central Services and clients on any inspection delays
  • Reviews work product against applicable Best Practices and applicable client instructions
  • Works closely with Director of Loss Control Services
  • Communicates Inspector service issues to Director of Loss Control services
  • Engages with field assets on handling issues, “how to items,” or questions related to the specific assignment.
  • Helps identify training and recruiting needs necessary to advance CRU GROUP’s LCS business
  • Communicates CRU GROUP’s and client’s expectations to the Loss Control field inspectors
  • Proactively manages our SLA compliance within the client’s shared system

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience in environmental consulting, remediation, industrial hygiene, environmental health & safety (EHS), or environmental regulatory compliance.
  • LCS & general software experience - RCT, LC360, Insurity & Microsoft Office
  • CEP (Certified Environmental Professional) or similar certification in environmental risk management
  • Time Management & communication skills
  • Experience with favorably managing and meeting SLA’s
  • Understanding of Environmental Insurance coverage such as Contractors Pollution Liability, Storage Tank Coverages, and Site Pollution Environmental Coverage
  • Experience conducting on-site risk assessments for industrial, commercial, and construction clients.
  • At least 5 Years experience in Loss Control and Underwriting inspection
  • Ability to cope with surge in business resulting in longer working hours
  • Loss Control Technical Skills for risk assessment, hazard identification, safety compliance analysis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Industrial Hygiene, or related technical discipline.
  • Certified Environmental Risk Insurance Analyst (CERIA)
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • Background supporting environmental insurance carriers, underwriting teams, or brokers.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • CERCLA, RCRA, EPCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and state/local environmental regulations.
    • Pollution liability exposures, including storage tanks, waste handling, transportation, and contractor environmental risks.
    • Contaminants of emerging concern (e.g., PFAS) and associated risk implications.
  • Familiarity with industrial operations, such as manufacturing, warehousing, chemical handling, or energy sector facilities.
  • Ability to review remediation plans, spill histories, environmental reports, and compliance documentation to assess risk.
